The Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Ltd is owned by the Government of India and is responsible for the implementation of the Kolkata (East-West Metro) Corridor Project, which is the most ambitious metro project going to connect the eastern and western parts of the city when completed. The project involves constructing a metro corridor that will join Salt Lake Sector-V, located on the east side of Kolkata, to Howrah Maidan in the west and, at last, will improve the convenience for commuters and reduce time spent in travelling across the city.

The total of 12 stations will be provided on the East-West Metro Corridor, including 6 elevated stations and 6 underground stations, besides 6 underground stations, put up along the corridor with attention to being the most important sites along the route. Modern facilities will be installed at all these stations, making traveling for the passengers convenient as well as easy.

Another important aspect of this project is that the entire metro line will be integrated with existing major transportation hubs in the country, as it will have terminal interchanges with the two most prominent Indian Railways terminals: Howrah and Sealdah. This interchange will facilitate seamless layover transfer between the metro system and the railway network, thus adding to the total connectivity within the city of Kolkata and to other regions in the country.

This East-West Metro Corridor would definitely ease some traffic congestion, reduce carbon emissions and offer a quick yet reliable public transport mode which can help in the sustainable urban development of the city. It would contribute towards the broader vision of improving the public transport infrastructure of Kolkata in a time when the population and commuter demands are so much escalating.

the recruitment offers a range of technical positions, including Fitter, Electrician, Machinist, and Welder, with a total of 128 vacancies. These roles are essential for maintaining and operating mechanical, electrical, and welding systems in various industrial and infrastructure projects. Candidates selected for these positions will contribute significantly to the smooth functioning of the organization.

1. Fitter: 82 posts – Responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining mechanical systems and machinery.
2. Electrician: 28 posts – Involves installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and circuits.
3. Machinist: 9 posts – Operates machine tools to fabricate metal parts with precision.
4. Welder: 9 posts – Joins metal components using various welding techniques.

Age Limit (As on 22 January 2025)

• The candidates should have completed 15 years of age and should not have completed 24 years of age

Age Relaxation:-

• The upper age limit is relaxable by 05 years in the case of SC/ST candidates.
• The upper age limit is relaxable by 03 years in the case of OBC-NCL candidates.
• For PwBD: The upper age limit is relaxed by 10 years
• The upper age limit is relaxable by an additional 10 years for Ex-SM (ex-serviceman) up to the extent of service rendered in Defense Forces plus 03 years provided they have put in a minimum of 06 months service at a stretch.

Selection Process :-

• Document Verification (DV): Selection list will be based on average marks in Matriculation and ITI.
• Merit List: Prepared trade unit/community-wise.
• No Centralized Merit List: No unified merit list will be formed.
• Calculation of Merit: Merit based on the average percentage marks in Matriculation (minimum 50%) and ITI, with equal weightage to both.
• Based on merit.
